The first official meeting of the East Derry Fire Company was held on January 26th, 1948 at the home of Charles Smith.
A committee comprised of Raymond Sheaffer, Charles Smith, Bill Wagner, Grant Dressler and Paul Richards was appointed to meet with Abe Yearick who was the Chief of the Lewistown Borough Fire Department.
Raymond Sheaffer was elected as the temporary President. He appointed a committee of three to meet with the Junction Fire Company concerning a fire truck. The committee was comprised of Harry Miller, Bud Corson and Bill Wagner.
On February 2nd, 1948 the second meeting was held at the home of Charles Marker. A report from the committee who met with Chief Abe Yearick reported that Mr. Yearick would assist the fire company anyway he could.
The truck committee also reported that they had met with the Junction Fire Company. Ted Bailor reported what needed to be done to the truck and he suggested that the vehicle be borrowed rather than purchased. Erie Casner seconded the motion and the motion passed.
A committee made up of Bill Wagner, Charles Smith and Ed Marker was appointed to meet with the Supervisors of this district to discuss the charter.
The membership application fee was set at $2.50 and annual dues were established at $1.00 a year.
The official name of the fire company was established as the East Derry Volunteer Fire Company No. 1.
On February 5th, 1948 a special meeting was held in the home of Charles Marker. Gill Kuhns made a motion which was seconded by Kenny Grove to do a house to house fund drive to raise funds for the fire company. The motion passed.
Bud Corson was elected as the temporary Fire Chief.
The third company meeting was held on February 9th, 1948 in the home of Charles Marker. William Wagner reported that the fire truck would be received from the Junction Fire Company under the following conditions.
The East Derry Fire Company would pay for transfer of title both ways from Junction to East Derry and then back to Junction when East Derry was done borrowing the truck.
East Derry could have the lettering removed and place their own lettering and name on the truck. The truck would remain the property of the East Derry Fire Company as long as we see fit. East Derry has no right to dispose of the truck when finished with it and must return it to the Junction Fire Company.
Ed Marker, William Wagner and Grant Dressler were elected as Trustees.
Mr. Bailor made a motion that applications for drivers be accepted by Chief Mechanic David Sheaffer for a period of one month.
Mr. Bailor made a motion to write to Mr. Shilling and offer him a free membership to this fire company for his service of teaching us the fundamentals of the truck. Motioned seconded by Kenny Grove.
During the fourth meeting held on February 16th, 1948 Mr. Ed B. Marker reported the repairs to the garage were finished. David Sheaffer made a motion that Charles Marker be given a paid up membership for one year. Charles Smith seconded the motion and the motion carried.
Mr. Bailor made a motion that Charles Marker should be paid $2.00 a month to assist with paying for the lights. Bill Wagner seconded the motion and the motion passed.
Based on this information it becomes apparent the fire company was first housed in a garage owned by Charles Marker.
A motion was also made by Mr. Bailor that the Trustees purchase three lots from three men, Mr. Sheaffer, Mr, Marker and Mr. Smith for the price of the lots plus interest, with no time set for turnover.
